Do you live near an airport or busy road traffic? Do you have kids that love to listen to loud music? If you do, you need to take some preventive measures! And you must do them fast!
According to a research by the World Health Organisation, thousands of people around the world are dying prematurely from heart disease caused by long-term exposure to excessive noise.
In the UK, for example, 101,000 people died from coronary heart disease last year. The study found that 3,030 of these deaths are triggered by chronic noise exposure, including daytime traffic.
Given that 7 million people worldwide die every year from heart disease, the toll from noise exposure is about 210,000.
British scientists discovered that 3% of fatal heart attacks and strokes were linked to noise pollution.
Researchers from University College London said levels exceeding 75 decibels raise blood pressure considerably.
The problem is very serious. The Europe-wide study found that 15% of people suffer severe annoyance from excess noise.
