Australian heart experts have developed ground-breaking treatment that could save the lives of millions of heart disease patients throughout the world.
Specialists from the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney invented the treatment that uses adult stem cells from patients to repair dead heart tissue.
The patients were injected with a hormone to release stem cells from bone marrow into the blood stream.
To encourage the cells to travel to the heart, the patients perform a cardio-vascular exercise, such as using a treadmill.
Once in the heart, cells create new blood vessels to restore circulation and improve heart function.
